Vancouver-based Deep Sea Minerals has begun engagement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as it moves to advance a licence application for deep seabed mineral development under the US regulatory framework.

The company said the step marks the start of the procedural process required to submit an application in line with NOAA’s regulatory requirements.

CEO James Deckelman said in a statement that the engagement demonstrated the company’s commitment to advancing critical mineral opportunities within US jurisdiction.

“This is a clear demonstration of commitment to our operational plan, specifically to position the company in high quality critical mineral assets within the United States regulatory framework,” he said.

Deep Sea Minerals is focused on exploring and potentially developing subsea resources containing metals considered important for energy transition technologies, defence applications and advanced manufacturing supply chains.

The company’s strategy centres on identifying areas prospective for polymetallic nodule systems, which can host a mix of metals used in clean energy infrastructure, electronics and AI technologies.
